Starbucks roast levels are one of the darkest commercially. To achieve the brighter complexities of the coffee in an espresso drink, reduce your dose and grind like you would a medium roast. It is very difficult to achieve the tasting notes described by the roaster. It almost seems counter-intuitive for such a darkly roasted coffee bean so trial and error is in your future!
